CARUTHERSVILLE - Lady Luck was there for three boaters Saturday.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Caruthersville Police received a call of a boat in distress on the Mississippi River near Bunge Corp.
According to a news release from the Caruthersville Police Chief Chris Riggs, the three occupants of the boat were fishing when the anchor became stuck on rocks and the current started making the boat take on water. The individuals in the boat were resuced by employees with the Lady Luck Casino rescue boat.
The boat eventually sunk, however was later recovered.
At 8:30 p.m. Friday, Caruthersville Police were called to the Lady Luck Casino to assist with security.
According to Riggs, an intoxicated patron had jumped into the Mississippi River "stating he wanted to swim back home."
Employees with the casino were able to locate the subject in the water however the subject refused to be rescued for about 15 minutes. Security officers were finally able to pull the individual into the rescue boat after several attempts, however as the boat was returning to shore, the man again jumped into the river. Pulled back into the boat again, the subject was transported to shore and into custody of the Caruthersville Police.
The 52-year-old Covington, Tenn., man was arrested for opposing a police officer and resisting arrest. He was taken to the Pemiscot County Jail.
