SIKESTON -- Cowboys and cowgirls from all around sattled up for the 56th annual Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Wednesday night.
Kicking off the action on opening night were the bareback riders. Bobby Mote took the top spot with a score of 88 while Kaycee Feild followed closely with 85. Steven Dent finished third on the night with 84.
In the steer wrestling event, Cole Edge and Kyle Whitaker wreslted his way into the lead with a time of 4.2 seconds with Brad Morgan occupying third with 4.3.
During the first go around in the down roping event, Trent Creager tied his steer that fastest finishing in 9.7 seconds. Luke Shafer came in second at a time of 10.9 while Fred Whitfield came in third with 11.4.
The next event of the night was team roping. The duo of Morgan Jones and Tom Bourne lassoed thier steer the quickest at 6.9 seconds while the team of Chris Camerer and J.L. Johnson right on their heels with a time of 7.2 seconds. The team of Bryan Campbell and Bubba Rhea took the third with a time of 14.6 respectively.
The cowgirls took the area stage next in the barrel racing event. Amanda Mulvaney edged out the competition with a time of 16.57 while Jeanne Anderson came in second with a time of 16.62, barely topping the third place rider Shawna Boume, 16.63.
The final event of the night featured the bull riders. Howdy Cloud mounted Night Moves for a first round score of 93. Trevor Kastner came in second on Blue Goose with a total of 85. While Casey Baize took on Coffee Grinder for a score of 81.
Tonight's action will begin at 7 p.m. at the rodeo grounds.
