Fighting Squirrels fall to Mobile, Ala., and Modesto, Calif.

NEWARK, OHIO -- The Charleston Fighting Squirrels stand now at 1-2 in pool play during the Senior babe Ruth World Series in Newark, Ohio.

On Saturday the Squirrels were beaten by Modesto, Calif. by a score of 10-2.

Jamie Barber suffered the loss on the mound for Charleston. Modesto pounded out 11 base hits including six extra base hits. Five errors also hurt the Squirrels which scored four unearned runs for Modesto.

Tyler Whybark hit a double to score both of Charleston's runs.

It was more of the same on Sunday for the Squirrels as they fell by the 10-run rule, 14-4, after five innings of play against Mobile, Ala.

After leading 4-2 after two innings, the Squirrels could only connect for one hit in the last three innings off of Mobile's relief pitcher Collin Blankenship who came into the game in the top of the third.

Mobile went on to have three consecutive four-run innings to put away Charleston.

Colin Gilooly had three hits including two RBIs to lead the Squirrels.

Charleston will play their final game of pool play on Tuesday against Long Island, N.Y. to possibley keep their World Series hopes alive.
