Aug. 13, 1948

SIKESTON - The Sikeston school board has officially accepted the Lincoln School in Sunset addition and workmen started moving equipment into the building in preparation for the fall term this morning. Construction on the modern building began last year and was completed late this summer. It had eight classrooms, a modern heating plant and office space for the school administrators.

Aug. 13, 1968

SIKESTON - Plans for a Ramada Inn with 100 units to be constructed in Sikeston were announced today by Mid America Hotels Corp., with Charles L. Drury and Jerry M. Drury, both of Cape Girardeau, as stockholders.

Aug. 13, 1988

SIKESTON - Lauri J. Hoper, daughter of John W. and Bobbi M. Hoper of Sikeston, was recently promoted to the rank of captain in the U.S. Air Force. She is assigned to the Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Ariz.

SIKESTON - Ricky Van Shelton was the entertainer at Friday's Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo performance. Shelton sang hits of his only album to the crowd of over 7,000.

SIKESTON - A color guard led the way Saturday, when rodeo week activities continued with the annual parade. Clowns, political figures and advertising characters from local restaurants were main attractions.

SIKESTON - Sarah Crouthers, 17, is one of 27 high school students selected who spent June 15 to July 10 working as a Congressional page for U.S. Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond.
