SIKESTON - Ken Curtis, better known as Festus of television's "Gunsmoke" series is guest for this year's Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo. His wife, Torrie, accompanied him to Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Hot young country group Restless Heart headlined Saturday's performance of the 36th annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, attracting the week's record crowd of 9,200. Lead vocalist John Dittrich and band wowed fans with hits like "That Rock Won't Roll" and "Let the Heartache Ride Tonight." The Charlie Daniels Band closed out rodeo week in Sikeston with their rich blend of rock, country, bluegrass and Cajun, attracting a crowd of 6,200, according to David Dolan. Charlie Daniels excited his hard-core fans so that they danced in the aisles.

SIKESTON - The Bootheel Healthy Start held an open house Friday at their new location on North Street. Attending the festivities at Malone Park were Missouri Delta Medical Center, Sikeston Department of Public Safety and other community representatives.

SIKESTON - Members of the planning committee for the 1998 Heart Walk were busy discussing ideas for the Sept. 26 event in Sikeston. The Heart Walk, held in conjunction with the Cotton Festival for the Arts, is a fundraiser for the Scott County Unit of the American Heart Association.

SIKESTON - Sgt. Kevin L. Nall of Sikeston is serving with the National Guard on a small Alaskan island. Operation Alaskan Road is a joint military and community project to construct a 14-mile road on Annette Island, which will take six years to complete.
