Caravan stops in Sikeston

SIKESTON -- When people think of hockey, they commonly think of icy cold weather and northern locations. On a pleasantly warm Thursday afternoon, several Sikeston residents had hockey on their minds -- St. Louis Blues hockey. The Blues Caravan made its way through southeast Missouri, stopping at Cheers Bar and Grill for an autograph session and meet-and-greet.

"Today's turnout was great," said Joe Bill Davis of KRHW. "It was good to see that several people in town like hockey and it's good to get them on the Blues bandwagon."

Davis, as well as many other Sikeston residents, waited in line to receive autographs from David Perron and Steve Wagner. Perron was a first round selection (26th overall) by the Blues in the 2007 National Hockey League draft, while Wagner signed as an undrafted free agent in 2007. Both made an impact on the season for St. Louis according to Chris Kerver, the radio play-by-play announcer for the Blues. Kerver gave the introduction of the players at the event at Cheers.

Along with the autograph session, fans were free to ask the players questions and pick up freebies that Peoples National Bank as well as the team provided items such as posters, hockey pucks and photos. The team offered any information regarding season ticket packages for those in attendance.

"I'd like to thank Cheers for letting us have this event at their place," said Davis following the event. "It was great to see the people get to meet a few of the players and get a few autographs."

The Blues open the regular season at home against the Nashville Predators on Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
