SIKESTON - Leonard McMullin died last night at his home, 655 Park Avenue, following a long period of illness. McMullin was a Sikeston businessman and farmer.

PORTAGEVILLE - The new concrete stretch of Interstate 55 from north of Howardville to one mile south of Portageville will be opened to traffic about Nov. 1, Division 10 Project Engineer Don Gregory of Malden reports.

SIKESTON - Sikeston city employees prepared the ground in front of the Nu Weigh Body Toning System building at 522 S. Kingshighway. That's the site of the first new sidewalk to be financed with the sale of personalized bricks that will be embedded in the sidewalks. Workmen poured concrete for the new sidewalk Thursday. The Chamber of Commerce is taking orders for the bricks.

SIKESTON - The Homeless Shelter was the beneficiary of donations Tuesday from local banks. H. Dennis Neal, president and chief executive officer for Mercantile Bank, made a $250 donation to Jim Link, executive director of the shelter. The fundraising effort will mean furniture, fencing and carpeting for the center and other funds will be used for such purchases as food and prescriptions.

SIKESTON - Gary Freeman, an employee with the Sikeston Parks and Recreation Department, sprays herbicide on American Lotus. The Parks and Recreation Department are spraying the American Lotus because they are taking over the lake at the Sports Complex.

SIKESTON - Ryan McKinley has won the last four out of five feature races at the SEMO Kart Raceway and he is currently first in points in the Junior Stock Class. He is also first in overall track points in all the classes.
