SIKESTON -- Viola Brewer celebrated her 85th birthday with four generations of family and friends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 at the home of Mark Cheatham and Terry Brewer-Cheatham.

Earlier that morning Brewer-Cheatham surprised her grandmother at church by showing up and singing two gospel songs in honor of her grandmother's birthday. A buffet lunch along with a table of heavy appetizers were prepared at the Cheatham's home. Tables were adorned with raspberry and lime linens and white roses. The cake was decorated by Susie's Bake Shoppe. Over 80 people were in attendance throughout the day.

When asked how she stayed so fit and positive, Brewer said: "Never complain. And always thank the good Lord above every day for your health and family and friends."
