SIKESTON -- Melfred E. Taylor, 95, died Aug. 22, 2008, at his home.
Born Nov. 11, 1912, in Wickliffe, Ky., to the late Alfred and Mittle M. (Goforth
Taylor, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, and had served in
the Missouri National Guard. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of Sikeston Lions Club and the Charleston Lions Club. He was the original owner and operator of Sikeston Dry Cleaners and Laundry, which is now owned by his son and grandson.
On Aug. 31, 1933, in Jonesboro, Ill., he married Margaret L. Mitchell, and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Barb Taylor of Waukee, Iowa and Mike and Mary Lou Taylor and Steve and Pat Taylor all of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Neva Mae Taylor; one granddaughter, Susan Taylor; and one step-grandchild preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today at the Ponder Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Dr. Rick Ramsey will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Taylor Jr., Ed Taylor, Justin Taylor, Garrett Taylor, Britt Taylor and Aaron Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Ziegenhorn, Pete Burns, Doug Marsh, Jerry Pullen, Bryan Taylor, Jim Thurmond and Darren Taylor.
