SIKESTON - Stephen Huffstutler, manager of Santie Oil Co. in Sikeston, has been elected state chairman of the convention of the Missouri LPG Association. The committee is responsible for planning and coordinating seminars and exhibitions for the association's annual convention each summer.

BLOOMFIELD - The Bloomfield city government has set its tax rate at $1.11 per $100 assessed valuation for the coming year. The breakdown is 43 cents for the general fund, 59 cents for the bond and sinking fund and 9 cents for the library fund. Also, during the meeting on Aug. 22, members of the city's park board asked for funds for park maintenance and improvement. Those projects would include a new pavilion, walking trails and facilities for the recreation of Bloomfield's older citizens and the upgrading of the existing features.

SIKESTON - High school football fans and coaches get their first chance to see how their team stacks up against other schools in one of the many MSHSAA Jamborees taking place across the state on Friday night. The full contact scrimmages took place for the first time in Missouri history last year, offering players game-like situations.
