POPLAR BLUFF -- A program designed to provide maximum manpower during the travel days will be implemented by Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers over the holiday weekend.
Captain G.E. Ridens, commanding officer of Troop E in Poplar Bluff, said the program, "15-mile Trooper," will provide a trooper at least every 15 miles on Interstate 55 and U.S. Highway 60.
The program began Friday and will end Monday. The operation is 12 hours in length each day.
Troopers will be located in both a stationary and moving observational positions. They will monitor traffic and watch for drivers that are following too close, making improper lane changes, and who are intoxicated. Troopers also will be enforcing a zero tolerance policy for motorists who are not wearing a seat belt.
