NEW MADRID - Mr. and Mrs. Payton Patrick of New Madrid have announced the birth of a son born at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau Wednesday.
NEW MADRID - The city council approved an Oct. 1 election for the issuance of $500,000 in bonds. Proceeds from the sale of the bonds would be used for the construction of a new sewage disposal system and improvement and extension of other water and sewage facilities.
SIKESTON - James Price was one of more than 150 individuals who participated in Saturday's Bowl for Kids benefit event at Imperial Lanes. Funds raised through the event will go to the Big Brother-Big Sister program.

BENTON - The Southern Scott County Ambulance District recently took delivery on a new diesel ambulance. The vehicle was specially designed in Orlando, Fla. Present Wednesday morning for the delivery was Don Johnson, Joe Burton and Michelle Fair, emergency medical technicians; Gerald Walton, emergency medical services supervisor; Bill Sikes, ambulance district chairman; Clarence Cantrell, district treasurer; and Benny Marshall III, district board member.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities has decided to go against the city council's vote and has accepted a bid by the Johnson's Insurance Group for its workers compensation insurance package.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety held a checkpoint Friday night at the 400 block of East Malone. During their three-hour stay, DPS checked 155 vehicles, making 14 arrests. The average time the cars were stopped at the checkpoint was 36 seconds.
