PORTAGEVILLE -- A Portageville teen is in serious condition following a weekend accident in New Madrid County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. Sunday on Highway 162, two miles east of Portageville. The northbound vehicle driven by Desiree D. Buchanan, 16, ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting the driver.
Buchanan was transported to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn., where she was treated for serious injuries. Her passenger, Semaj Y Mosby, an infant, sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti.
A child was also injured in a weekend accident. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 6:57 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of County Road 524 and Missouri Highway 25, one-tenth of a mile east of Malden. A westbound vehicle driven by John K. Dell, 48, of Malden, pulled into the path of a southbound all-terrain vehicle driven by Tommy R. Burleson, 33, of New Madrid. The ATV struck Dell's vehicle in the front left, ejecting Burleson and his passenger.
Taren E. Cheaney, Burleston's passenger, sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Twin Rivers Medical Center in Kennett. No injuries were reported for Dell or Burleson.
