DEXTER -- The Rev. Elvis R. Kester, 91, died Sept. 6, 2008, at his home.
Born June 19, 1917, in Clay County, Ark., he was the son of the late George and Dicey Prince Kester. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a carpenter and a pastor of the General Baptist faith for many years in Stoddard County.
On Nov. 23, 1986, at Essex, he married Marie Peek who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one stepson, Bruce Alan Mills of St. Peters; one sister, Ulah Montagno of Bandera, Texas; and two step-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by four brother, Paul Kester, John Kester, Aurther Kester and Roy Kester; and four sisters, Violet Brandt, Pauline Slaughter, Arlene Barcliff and Helen Gann.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Johnny Meese officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
