EAST PRAIRIE -- Linda Lou Thurmond, age 47 years, three months and 19 days, a resident of East Prairie, passed away 8:20 p.m. Sept. 9, 2008, at the home of her mother-in-law.
Born May 20, 1961, at Waynesville, to Maxine Forbey Finley of East Prairie and the late Dewey L. Finley Sr., Linda lived most of her life in East Prairie where she was co-owner of The Prairie Centre in East Prairie and was employed at the Mississippi County Division of Family Services in East Prairie. She was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church. Linda was also the 2008 Hero of Hope for the American Cancer Society.
On Jan. 1, 1998, at East Prairie she married Lonnie L. Thurmond who survives.
Survivors besides her husband and mother include; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cody F. and Erika Archie and Colby L. and Julie Archie both of East Prairie; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Meredyth Thurmond Malone and husband Matt of Portland, Ore., and Lauren C. Thurmond of East Prairie; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Dewey Lee and Mary Lou Finely of Greenville, Tenn., and Carl "Bucky" Finley of Galveston, Texas; her mother-in-law, Effie Shurtz of East Prairie; her father-in-law, Bob Thurmond of East Prairie; and one grandson, Corbin Archie of East Prairie; and a host of relatives and many friends.
Besides her father, she was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Dr. Randall Shurtz.
Friends may call after 6 p.m Thursday at the Elm Street Baptist Church where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at 11 a.m. with Jon Archie officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be: Eugene Frye, Mikey Johnson, Kevin Nalley, Richard Thurmond, Mike Peters and Matt Blumenberg.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Poyner, Duke Presson and Lanie Black.
