MATTHEWS -- Arthur Mitchell "Art" Vann, 49, died at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau for the past two and a half years. He had been severely injured in an automobile accident in March 2004, which left him paralyzed.
He was born Sept. 13, 1958, in Sikeston, to the late R.B. and Imogene Morrison Vann. He was a 1976 graduate of Matthews High School. He worked as a farmer with his father and brother until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1983. He served four years in Germany, and in 1988, he returned to Matthews and became an electrician. He worked for a number of years for Hart Electric in Matthews. He was a member of the Big Prairie Jaycees in Matthews and the New Madrid Baptist Church.
He is survived by: one brother, Joe Vann of New Madrid; one sister, Stacey Constant of Eureka; four nieces and nephews, Jodi Vann and Ashley Learue of St. Louis and John Constant and Sarah Constant of Eureka. He is also survived by an uncle, Jerry Vann of Matthews, along with other aunts, uncles and cousins.
A special thank you goes to his friends of the Matthews area that provided help and support to him after his accident and to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, who gave him excellent and compassionate care these past two and a half years.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston after 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time of services at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
