SIKESTON - Attendance at the municipal swimming pool this year was about 1,000 below that of last year but still reached 12,223 according to Bill Bess, chairman of the pool committee of the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Sept. 10, 1988

SIKESTON - On Saturday, while Sikeston's Boy Scout Troop 41 was hoping to raise about $500 with a baseball card show, 12-year-old Jason Renaud needed just $1.50. Jason, who lives in Charleston, has amassed more than 10,000 cards since he started collecting in 1985. But on Saturday, he had only one card on his mind. "I want a 1988 Jose Canseco," he said.

CHAFFEE - The Sikeston and New Madrid County Central volleyball teams wrapped up their matches in the SEMO Conference Tournament in Chaffee last night. Sikeston dropped into the third place bracket falling to second-seeded Jackson, while fourth-seeded NMCC upset top-seeded Poplar Bluff to advance to the championship round.
