Kennett wins singles, doubles titles at SIT

SIKESTON -- The Kennett Lady Indians won both the singles and doubles titles in the Sikeston Invitational Tennis Tournament Saturday.

The tournament was comprised of players from Sikeston, Charleston, Fredericktown and Kennett with eight singles players (two from each team) and eight doubles teams (two from each team) making up each bracket.

Kennett's Brook Burcham won the singles title, defeating teammate Hanna Lack 8-3 to win the championship while the doubles team of Susan Shetley and Anna Grantham defeated Charleston's Jordan Duenne and Chelsea Stallings 8-0 for the doubles title.

Sikeston's Jacarra Lampkin fared well for the Lady Bulldogs, outlasting Fredericktown's Samantha Pinkley 8-6 in the first round. "Jacarra played great her first match," said Sikeston coach Lynne DeWitt.

Lampkin then lost a hard-fought contest to Burcham in the semifinals 8-4.
