GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Alberta Burress, 89, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 10:50 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at the Evergreen Senior Health Care Center in Greensboro.
She was born on April 28, 1919, in Matthews, to the late Sanford and Donnie Merrell Thompson, her favorite pastime was gardening.
On April 27, 1937, in Poplar Bluff, she married Earl Gray, who preceded her in death on March 24, 1945. On July 19, 1975, in Naperville, Ill., she married Charles Burress, who preceded her in death in 1984.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison Thompson and Bill Thompson; and five sisters, Mary Thompson, Hazel Thompson, Evolee Thompson, infant Irene Thompson and Thelma Brashears.
She is survived by: one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jack Sims of Jamestown; two grandchildren, Julie and husband Chris Martin of High Point and Jason Sims, also of High Point; three great-grandchildren, Erica Martin, Megan Martin and Blake Sims, all of High Point; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Friday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
