He was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Princeton, Ky., son of the late Dora E. (Kappler) Oliver and Cullen H. Oliver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Seabees in Guam during World War II. He was a union carpenter construction foreman and a member of Eastside Church of the Nazarene.
On Sept. 29, 1940, in Corning, Ark., he married Ruby L. Crawford; she survives of the home in Sikeston.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Beverly Oliver of Benton and Gerald and Lee Oliver of Sikeston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Lonnie Hodges and Sherry and Ronnie Lambert all of Sikeston; three grandsons and spouses, Matthew and Joanne Hodges of Bertrand, and Michael and Mary Oliver and Andrew Oliver all of Sikeston; three granddaughters, Julie Hodges, Kellie Lambert and Kathryn Oliver all of Sikeston; five great-grandsons, Austin Henson, Tanner Henson, Steven Holman and Nicholas Beard all of Sikeston, and Chase Hodges of Bertrand; and three great-granddaughters, Charlee Oliver, Anastasia Oliver, and Annie Elizabeth Oliver all of Sikeston.
He was preceded in death by one son, Cullen Eugene Oliver; six brothers, Henry Lee Oliver, Lee Oliver, Caleb Oliver, Percey Oliver, Emory Oliver and O.M. "Red" Oliver; four sisters, Birdie Chaney, Ida Wallace, Mary Oliver and Frances Clark; and one daughter-in-law, Marjorie Oliver.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Brian Blankenship, pastor of Eastside Church of the Nazarene, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with full military rites.
