Sept. 22, 1948

SIKESTON - JoAnn Newberry, 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Newberry of Sikeston Route 2, suffered a fractured leg Saturday afternoon on North Street. She ran into the side of a car driven by Mrs. Ora Fisher of Sikeston.

Sept. 22, 1968

SIKESTON - Little Mister and Miss Cotton Top were crowned last night by Vernon Landgraf, Republican candidate for 10th district representative. The winners were 4-year-old Lori Diane Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benny Evans of Oran, and Robert Bird Jr., 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bird of Kewanee.

SIKESTON - The 24th annual Cotton Carnival Parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Sept. 22, 1988

NEW MADRID - Tom Jennings and Dan Jennings, who farm in New Madrid and Stoddard counties, were named the 1988 Conservation Farmers of the Year by the New Madrid County Soil Conservation District Thursday evening. The award was presented during the district's meeting by Charles Beis Sr., chairman of the board of directors. The men, who farm 2,069 acres, received the award for their conservation practices including landgrading, drainage and erosion control practices with the assistance of the district.

SIKESTON - Lauren Poole was chosen from 22 contestants to wear the crown of Junior Miss Sikeston Thursday night at the Cotton Carnival. Becky DeKriek was first runner-up and Heather Bloemer was second runner-up. The retiring Junior Miss was Audra Sherman.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central huddle of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes is sponsoring an intersquad junior varsity football game. Admission to the game will be two can goods.
