SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs unloosed a powerful ground attack Friday night at Chaffee to sweep over the Red Devils for a 20-6 win in the 1948 season opener for both teams.

Sept. 23, 1968

SIKESTON - More than 800 area Democrats are expected to attend the annual Bootheel Rally tomorrow in Sikeston. Gov. Warren E. Hearnes, Lt. Gov. Thomas F. Eagleton and William Morris will be among the special guests.

SIKESTON - Two more contestants for the Miss Sikeston contest were announced today, bringing the total number of young ladies entered to 18. They are Gail Johnson, daughter of Nadine Warfield and Mary Jane York, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. York.

NEW MADRID - Pageants, parades and carnival rides will be part of the 29th Annual American Legion Brown-Twitty Fall Festival. The event is planned for Monday through Oct. 1 on Main Street.

SIKESTON - The 44th annual Sikeston Cotton Carnival parade featured 23 area bands and numerous float entries. The Bell City Brownies took a first place in the comic theme category for their entry, which featured the popular Disney character Mickey Mouse.

DEXTER - Friday's game between Charleston and Dexter was said to be one of the area's more attractive match-ups this year. The Bluejays got a touchdown in the final minute from Leonard Corbett, then held on to defeat the Bearcats 12-7 in Dexter's homecoming game.
