SIKESTON -- The Sikeston junior varsity football team took care of the Cape Central junior varsity on Monday in a 40-16 rout.
The Bulldogs built a commanding lead in the first half with 28 unanswered points.
Sam Erwin followed with a 45-yard touchdwon pass to Howard almost two minutes later. Erwin finished the first quarter with an 8-yard rushing touchdown while Howard capped off the score with a 2-pt conversion run to give the Bulldogs a 20-point lead.
Erwin rushed for his second score in the second quarter to give Sikeston a 28-0 lead but, Cape Central ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown to make it a 28-8 game heading into halftime.
During the third quarter, the Tigers ran for their last score with about four minutes left on the clock.
But, Erwin answered back with a 13-yard run of his own just after that.
And to cap off the night for the Bulldogs, Ray Clark broke off a 55-yard run in the fourth quarter for the final score of the night.
Sikeston will host Fredericktown next week on Monday at 6 p.m.
