BENTON -- A Benton man was arrested in connection with a burglary and property damage that occurred last month at a New Hamburg bar, and a warrant was issued Monday afternoon for an accomplice.
Charles D. Dobyns, 18, of Benton, was arrested Friday on charges of burglary, property damage and felony stealing, following an investigation into damage that occurred Aug. 21 at Schindler's Tavern, according to a Monday news release issued by Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter. The total amount of the theft and damage at Schindler's is approximately $5,000.
Bond was set at $2,500, and Dobyns remained in jail as of press time.
On Monday afternoon, a warrant was issued for Kent J. Courtney, 19, of Chaffee. He is charged with burglary, felony stealing and felony property damage.
Scott County authorities have received information that Courtney, who is not in custody at this time, left the state shortly after the burglary and returns periodically. He is entered into the NCIC, the national crime computer system, which has nationwide extradition.
Authorities said it is in Courtney's best interest to turn himself in. Anyone who knows his whereabouts and wants to provide information anonymously is urged to call the Scott County Tip Line, 866-210-4322. Calls can also be made to the regular department number, 573-545-3525.
