A suspicious vehicle complaint leads to arrests

BENTON -- An investigation into a suspicious vehicle complaint on Saturday resulted in the arrest of two Sikeston residents on drug charges.

Scott County Deputy Chuck Howard responded to County Highway 511 in reference to two people acting suspiciously in a vehicle, according to a news release issued Monday by Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter. Upon arrival, Howard saw drug paraphernalia in open view through the window and further investigation revealed 22 pills of different types, but all of which were controlled substances.

In a subsequent search of the vehicle, other materials were found. Those items were: spoons with filter material, residue and burn marks and a syringe and marijuana pipe.

Arrested were: Shane Lee Nall, 27, of 602 N. Ranney in Sikeston; and Ashley N. Lay, 20, of 110 Spring Drive in Sikeston, each on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $7,500 each. Lay posted bond and was released, while Nall remained in custody as of press time.

"This is another example of the public reporting suspicious activity and our deputies acting on the report in a timely fashion to identify and arrest those violating the law in Scott County," said Walter.
