CHARLESTON -- A Mississippi County employee charged with stealing money from the sheriff's department waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Tracy Beam, 43, of East Prairie is charged with three counts of the class C felony of stealing, according to Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney Darren Cann. Beam worked as the executive assistant for the Mississippi County Detention Center from March 17 to July 30. She is accused of stealing about $3,500 from the sheriff's department in July, Cann said.
The investigation was conducted by the sheriff's department, said Cann, who noted all people are innocent unless they are proven guilty in a court of law, and these charges against Beam are allegations at this point.
Beam posted bond and was released. She will appear in the circuit court at a later date.
