Sunday, September 28, 2008

FREDERICKTOWN -- The Fredericktown Blackcats pulled out a close win over the East Prairie Eagles on Friday evening 40-32.

"It was just like last week," said East Prairie head coach Jason Aycock. "We were a couple of seconds from pulling off a win."

The Eagles scored twice in the first half, but Fredericktown matched and did one better as they scored three times and were headlined by running back Joey Lewandowski. Lewandowski rushed 26 times for 331 yards and three touchdowns in the victory for the home team.

"He was what hurt us," said Aycock of the Fredericktown senior running back. "He was basically the only one with rushing yards."

For the Eagles, MC Williams led the way on offense with 22 carries for 208 yards and three touchdowns. His longest rushing TD was from 49 yards out. Jordan Jarrett added 54 yards on the ground on 16 carries. Jarrett also recorded a touchdown and another one on defense on a fumble recovery.

At quarterback, Conner Scott was 9-for-16 for 64 yards. Receiving Scott's passes were Shane Scott, 4 receptions for 21 yards, Riley Hadenfelt, 3-for-21 and Williams who caught 2-for-16.

Up next for East Prairie is the Chaffee Red Devils who are coming off of a road victory over Scott City.
