Sikeston volleyball earns win against Bluejays

Charleston netters return favor on courts, Dexter volleyball wins

CHARLESTON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs picked up another win on the volleyball court Monday evening as they defeated the Charleston Lady Bluejays 25-14 and 25-14.

Sikeston finished the contest with 17 aces total. Leading the way in the stat column for the Lady Bulldogs was Asia Liggins with five kills, four aces and six digs, Madeline Davis with three kills, six aces, five digs and two blocks and Keyarra Blissett had three kills and three aces. Mandy Moore also had 11 digs in the victory.

"Our scoring was pretty much balanced," said Sikeston head coach Steve Beydler. "Asia Liggins had eight or nine points in a row in the second set and that pretty much capped it off."

The junior varsity squad also picked up a victory as they lost the first set 20-25 before winning the final two 25-16 and 25-13.

Sikeston will be at home this evening to take on the Oran Lady Eagles at 6 p.m.

Dexter 2, Advance 0

ADVANCE -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats volleyball team is now 13-5-3 on the season with a 5-1 record in the conference. The Lady Bearcats' latest victory came at the hands of the Advance Lady Hornets on Monday evening by scores of 25-7 and 25-18.

Brittany Bedford had three aces and nine digs, Cathryn Heil had five kills, four aces and eight digs and Kayla Joyner had three aces and seven digs. Abbie Warren chipped in eight kills and five blocks in the victory for Dexter.

The junior varsity squad also notched a victory as they won 25-19 and 25-7. The JV is 8-1 on the season with a 4-1 conference record.

The Lady Bearcats will host the Charleston Lady Bluejays this evening at 6 p.m.

"Charleston has a solid team and played well today," Sikeston tennis coach Lynne DeWitt said. "Our inexperience was evident, however we saw some improvement."

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Fredericktown today for their next match.
