SIKESTON -- The future of Sikeston High School football has been showing quite a bit of promise from the seventh grade program all the way up to the junior varsity squad. On Tuesday evening the seventh grade team proved their ability as they handed the visiting East Prairie Eagles a 20-6 loss at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.

JT Jones, Peyton Boyd and Chris Word provided the offensive boost for the Bulldogs as they each picked up considerable yardage in the win.

Jones notched the first TD of the game in the first quarter and added another in the fourth, while Word scored in the second and third quarters.

"We played pretty well," said Sikeston coach Brett Blackman. "Chris Word ran the ball really well, along with JT Jones and Peyton Boyd."

"We played well offensively," he added. "We stopped them defensively but we need to improve our tackling."

The young Bulldog squad is now 3-0 on the season and will be looking for a perfect season next week against Blytheville as they visit for the season finale.
