Several businesses join SACC in '08; next membership drive is in November

Sunday, October 5, 2008

I want to start out this month's article by expressing our sympathy to the American Legion and the Floyd family on the loss of American Legion Commander Larry Floyd. Larry was not only important to the American Legion but to the Sikeston and Miner communities because of his volunteerism on so many area projects. He was a long time participant and supporter of the Chamber's Redneck Barbecue and he will be sorely missed when the 2009 event rolls around in April. Larry was "just a good guy "and we at the chamber will miss him. Despite the loss of our American Legion Commander, Cotton Carnival week began and it was a great event. Congratulations to our American Legion Post and thank you once again for putting on an outstanding carnival and parade.

Now that October is here the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce is busy at work with our partners the Sikeston Elks Club in hosting the 14th Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest Oct. 18. Participants must be a non-profit youth organization, adult supervision is required (but adults are not allowed to paint the windows). The theme is Drug Awareness and Red Ribbon Week. Windows are downtown and are assigned by the Chamber of Commerce. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners, and if you would like to participate and want more information contact the chamber at 471-2498 or go to our Web site, www.sikeston.net.

I would like to welcome some of our new members that have joined us this calendar year: Comfort Inn and Suites, Marathon Processing Systems, Keidra's Caring Center, At Tax Time, Bo's Bar B-Q, Riceland Food, Big Brother Big Sister of Eastern Missouri, Wachovia Securities, Family Medicine of SE Missouri, Waupaca Northwoods, The Closeout Store, Coast to Coast Sign, Charter Business, Heartland Eye Care, El Torero, Computer 21, Corporate Strategy and Finance Assoc, The Guardian Angel Overnight Shelter, The Joy of Accounting, Tiptop Shape/Take Shape for Life, Conway and Co., Tomboy Tools, Cash's Scrap Metal and Iron Corp., Keith Parker/Missouri Farm Bureau, Concord Printing, RSC Equipment Rental, La Villetta, The Salvation Army, Electric Rayz Tanning Salon, The Blind Guy, China Buffet, Mary Griffith Attorney At Law, and New to You Store.
