Fire, fire!

On the surge in Iraq, John McCain is the arsonist who wants to be praised for the great job he's doing putting out the fire that he started.

Does God vote Republican?

I have a question - why do Republicans think they are God's chosen party? These people are men and should not be revered as gods chosen. Have we not seen Republicans get caught looking for gay sex in public restrooms, snort coke up their nose, cheat on their wives and molest children? These are humans. And I think it is quite pig headed to believe that God only has interests for America. Are there not Christians in Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, China and every corner of the world that our missionaries have gone? What a conceited right you have to say that God only blesses the U.S. and the Republican party. You should not judge, as you are but man. The Republican organization has "standard" ways of voting, it doesn't mean that the individuals believe in these things. They want to get re-elected so they can squander our time and our country. Besides Jesus did ride into town on a donkey!

Nothing's free

I received a scam check in the mail recently and just wanted to let everyone know so they don't become a victim. It was a check for almost $5000, and it said to deposit it and then send them a commission of 10 percent and you would receive another check for almost $5000. It said it was a free cash grant to pay off bills or start a business. It was from My Grant Outlet. The check was from WaMu Bank. I looked them up on better business bureau and they were rated an F. There were several complaints from people with stories that sounded just like the letter and check that I received. So if you receive one of these in the mail, then rip it up and throw it away.

Opinion - everybody's got one

Topix is a site where one can state their opinion and only an opinion whether it is backed by facts or totally false. People have tried to speak directly to these people about issues and they totally disregard them and push it under the rug. Have you tried to talk to a commissioner about the shortcomings in their departments or concerns you as a taxpayer have. There will be repercussions for doing so and this is why people don't want their real identities known. Most people read it for entertainment and don't take everything that is said as the truth.

Let's hear it for the band

I'd like to speakout about the New Madrid High School band and the outstanding performance they gave at the Cotton Carnival parade. It's apparent that they take pride in representing their high school by the way they looked and sounded. The twirler and flag team looked outstanding in their uniforms and gave a great performance. Over the past 15-20 years, I've seen a downward spiral in the sound, and especially the looks, of high school bands and it's a shame. A high school band is a reflection on the entire student body along with the school itself, especially when performing in out of town parades and football games. So New Madrid, keep up the great work and tradition.

Serious calls only

I have a suggestion for the retail merchants and the city of Sikeston. If they are unwilling to prosecute shoplifters, please do not call the DPS and waste their time and the taxpayers' money.

Their bag runneth over

I think it's a shame that parents can't control their kids. If parents controlled their kids, there would not be a problem throwing candy. At the Cotton Carnival parade, they passed out candy, which was nice, except people put it in the bags of children holding bags that were full of candy and left the kids that were sitting on the side with nothing. The kids with all the candy - could you not see the bag was full? What about the ones around them. You should have given it to the ones that were sitting down and being good. I did think it was a lot nicer this time.

How 'bout them melons?

Do you people realize that there is a whole field of beautiful watermelons on the northeast side of the Miner exit of I-55? I guess the people that own the watermelons are just going to let them lay there and rot. They couldn't get $4 or $5 for them down at their stand, they'd rather leave them in the field to rot. I think they could've given them to a homeless shelter or to some of the nursing homes.

Stop and change

They say Obama is for abortion and McCain is not. If McCain becomes president, will he stop abortion and change the law to where you can't have an abortion. That's something I'd like to know. Can he change it, and if he wins, will he?

That decision will be decided by the Supreme Court, not the president.

Bail to all

It is frustrating to see our Congress asking to give $700 billion to a sector that clearly cannot manage it wisely. It just goes to show that this country is designed to support a small percentage of the population. What's in it for the majority of the population that works to provide the tax dollars that keep this country in business? If our country has $8 billion to throw around so loosely why is our nation in the shape it's in? Just have a good look around you. Our own citizens need a bailout. Why not distribute this money to every tax paying adult in the U.S.? Let people pay their mortgages off, student loans, medical bills, obtain medical insurance, back due child support as well as all the other financial woes we encounter due to over taxation. Our problem as citizens is that we have taken a disconcerned stature to our nations problems because there are so many it's overwhelming and we often feel as though our hands are tied. It's about time we overcome the social barriers created by our government, come together and reclaim our nation.
