Dexter's Heil falls in semifinals to Kennett's Lack

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston High School girls tennis team's 2008 season came to an end on Thursday at the Class 1, District 1 tennis tournament held at Sikeston High School.

Sikeston performed well in their singles matches as Jacarra Lampkin made the quarterfinals before being ousted by Dexter's Katelyn Heil 6-2, 6-0. Lampkin defeated Jayne Rey of Arcadia Valley 6-1, 6-0 after receiving a bye into the second round.

Dexter's Katelyn Heil hits a return against Kennett's Hannah Lack in district semifinal singles action Thursday afternoon at the Sikeston High School tennis courts. Heil lost the match in two sets 6-2, 6-2.
Sikeston's Caroline Murray won her first round match 6-0, 6-2 over Shelby Seabaugh of Fredericktown before falling to Farmington's Heather Lewis in the second round 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, Sikeston's team of Brooke Partridge and Erica Garrett lost in the first round to North County's Brittany Ford and Alex Perry 6-4, 6-1. Sikeston's Rachel Murphy and Jessica Hutchcraft lost in the first round to Dexter's Jill Temples and Julie Bell 6-0, 6-0.

Dexter and Charleston also fared well in the tournament. Dexter's Heil, the top seed in singles, made it all the way to the he semifinals before losing to Kennett's Hannah Lack 6-2, 6-2. Heil defeated Shelby Mund of North County 6-0, 6-0 in the second round after receiving a first round bye. The Dexter senior then knocked off Lampkin before losing in the semifinals.

Dexter's other singles player, Catherine Kinchen also fared well, defeating Chelsea Senter of North County in the first round 6-3, 6-0 and then defeated West Plains' Amy Armstrong 6-3, 7-5 before losing to Heather Lewis of Farmington in the quarterfinals.

Charleston's Madeline Burke defeated Caruthersville's Alexander Carter in the first round, 6-0, 6-0 before losing to Lack in the second round 6-0, 6-0. The Lady Bluejays' Taylor Duenne also won her first round match, defeating Allie Bonney of Potosi 6-1, 6-1 before falling to Sara Johnson of Willow Springs, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles action, Dexter's team of Bell and Temples fell in their second round match to Politte and May of Farmington 6-2, 6-2. Dexter's other team of Audra Lasater and Jessica Snider fell in tough first round match to McGuire and Fitzwater of Potosi, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.

Charleston's double team of Jordan Duenne and Chelsea Stallings received a first round bye and then defeated Fredericktown's Ayyagari and Pinkley in the second round 6-3, 6-3 before falling in the quarters to Jensen and Murray of Farmington.

Charleston's other doubles team of Maggie Fox and Morgan Collier won their first round match over Doss and Doss of Potosi 6-2, 6-0 before falling to West Plains' Cooley and Evans in the second round 6-4, 6-4.
