Armed robbery at car wash Thursday

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Department of Safety is investigating an armed robbery which reportedly happened at a car wash.

The robbery was called in to DPS at about 8:53 p.m. Thursday.

The victim told officers he was washing his vehicle at the Elite Car Wash, 511 N. Main, when he was approached by a black male who was carrying a handgun. The man demanded the victim's money.

The victim turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the assailant who then fled on foot, running east on Hunter Street.

The victim was not injured in the incident, according to Sgt. James McMillen, DPS public information officer.

McMillen said the suspect described as being about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds.

The canine officer and his dog, Eros, were called to the scene in an attempt to track the robbery subject. Also assisting was the DPS Criminal Investigation Unit.
