PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Joyce Corder Smith, 62, died Oct. 13, 2008, at Trinity Village Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1946, in Searcy, to Dorothy Marie Fitzgerald Cooper of Pine Bluff and the late Harvey L. Cooper, Sr., she grew up and attended school in Charleston, Mo., graduating from St. Henry Catholic High School. She had worked as an insurance agent for Bankers Life and Causality Company, and was a legal secretary for 38 years. She worked 10 years for attorney Sharon Fortenberry before retiring. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and the Arkansas Legal Secretary Association. She was a notary public of Arkansas, and a licensed hairdresser for 25 years.
In 1967, she married Maurice Coooper. In 1998, she married Joe D. Smith.
Other survivors in addition to her mother include a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Lynn Smith-Rupe and husband Robert of Pine Bluff; three stepchildren and their spouses, Donna and Danny Crow of Russellville and Scott and Martha Christie of Little Rock and Sherrie Winter of Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, Harvey L. Cooper Jr. of Sikeston, Missouri and Don Cooper of Pine Bluff.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by: one daughter, Susan Renee Corder; one son, Michael Lewis Corder; and one stepson, Clifton Maurice Corder, Jr.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home in Pine Bluff. Services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
