BLOOMFIELD -- Ivan Ellis Morlan, 86, died Oct. 14, 2008, at his home in rural Bloomfield.
Born Feb. 22, 1922, in Lowndes, son of the late John Alfred and Clara Ellen McCoy Morlan, he had grown up in the Studivant and Avert communities and had lived in the Bloomfield area most of his life. He had attended the Beechgrove Church early in life and currently attended the Mount Pisgah Church in Aquilla. He was a row crop and cattle farmer, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Most of all he loved his wife, children, his farm, church and community, commenting many times, "that was all he ever needed."
On March 2, 1940, in Bloomfield, he married Bessie Allen Harper, who survivors of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Autry Morlan of Bloomfield and John Morlan of West Plains; one daughter, Gale Wilson of Bloomfield; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Culberson of Alton, Illinois. He also leaves three dear sister-in-laws, Hattie, Sybil and Marion. Other relatives and many friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ellis Morlan, four brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Bob Holland of Bloomfield will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
