EAST PRAIRIE -- Francis L. "Pops" Cohen, 85, died at 2:55 a.m. Oct. 26, 2008, in the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 20, 1923, in Sikeston, to the late James H. and Florence Cooper Cohen, he lived most of his life in Mississippi County where he was a retired mechanic and was a member of the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in East Prairie. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II and the Korean War.
On Sept. 15, 1946, he married Rentha D. Hunt who preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2005.
One brother, Elvis Cohen, and two sisters, Irene Cohen and Ruby Talbert, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Frank and Renae Cohen of Matthews and Larry Cohen of East Prairie; one daughter and son-in-law, James and Carolyn Smith of East Prairie; two brothers, John Cohen and Benny Cohen of Sikeston; two sisters, Betty Hobson of Broadview, Ill., and Bea Dalinis of Wilmington, Ill.; and six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
