SIKESTON -- After two weeks since filing opened, Sikeston has a two-way race for mayor.
Filing for city offices -- mayor, the Ward 3 seat held by David Teachout and the Ward 2 position occupied by Jim Terrell -- opened on Oct. 14.
Councilman Mike Bohannon, who is currently serving in one of the two at-large Council seats, filed for the mayor position on Oct. 16.
Councilman Jerry Pullen, who is currently representing Ward 1, filed for mayor Monday.
Mayor Mike Marshall, Teachout and Terrell are all ineligible for another consecutive term in their respective offices due to term limit provisions in the City Charter.
"I figured it would be kind of quiet this week due to the election," said City Clerk Carroll Couch of city filings. Couch said there may be more filings once Tuesday's election is over.
Municipal positions will be voted on during the April 7 election.
If more than two candidates file for any one position, a primary election will be Feb. 3. The top two candidates would then run in the April election.
