DORENA -- Florence Laverne Larkins Walton, 86, died at 2:30 a.m. Oct. 29, 2008, at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Born March 18, 1922, at Dorena, to the late Robert Rathburn Larkins and Annie Florence Bennett Larkins, Laverne spent 81 years of her life being a proud member of the Dorena Community.
On Dec. 26, 1939, she married Felix Eledge "Dick" Walton who preceded her in death. Four children were born from this loving marriage: Peggy Joyce Walton of Sikeston, Dickie Walton Lovelace and son-in-law John Lovelace of San Antonio, Jeanne Anne Walton Sullivan and fiance Rick Adams of Sikeston, and Richard Calvin Walton and fiancee Sherry Hart of Matthews; six grandchildren: Christopher John Lovelace of Cibolo, Texas, Julie Lovelace Carlson and Michael Carlson of Hereford, Texas, Elizabeth Sullivan Bailey and Casey Bailey of Burnsville, Minn., Vincent Walton Sullivan of Sikeston, Rebecca Katheryn Sullivan of St. Louis and Richard Calvin Walton II of East Prairie; and two great-granddaughters, Ashleigh Rebecca and Addison Elizabeth Carlson.
Other survivors include: two sisters, Greachann Bozeman (Billy Downs) of Walls, Miss., and Georgia Ferrell (Flaire) of Sikeston; two brothers, Bruce Larkins (Anabell) of Grand Rivers, Ky., and Marshall Larkins (Doris) of Clinton, Ky.; two sisters-in-law Mrs. Thomas (Dorothy) Larkins of Columbus, Ky., and Mrs. Robert (Mary Beth) Larkins of Carlisle, Ky.; one brother-in-law Wendell Choate of Charleston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Thomas and Robert Larkins and Lovell Larkins Choate; one brother-in-law James Bozeman; one nephew Kenny Larkins; and one niece Susan Larkins Lewis.
Laverne was a dedicated Christian, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves a legacy to all who knew her of her faith in God, love of family and hard work. Her love of gardening and culinary skills were known by many individuals.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie Friday where services are scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will follow at the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and two grandsons-in-law.
