SIKESTON -- Carl Gary Lathum, 66, died Nov. 1, 2008, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.
He was born Oct. 4, 1942, the son of Maxine Daugherty Lathum of Sikeston and the late Ezra Lathum, formerly of Matthews.
On May 15, 1962, he married Sharon Wright of Oran, from that union, two sons were born, Gary Lathum II and Gregry Lathum.
Gary graduated from Sikeston High School and attended three years at SEMO State University in Cape Girardeau. During this time he worked for Rex Lambert at Lambert's Fabrics in Cape. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sikeston, where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday school for many years.
In 1962, he was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in Trenton, Tenn., as a field representative for four years. Returning to Missouri, he became Manager for Hogan's Farm & Chemical Supply Stores located in East Prairie, Charleston and New Madrid. After working there for 19 years, he was an employee of DixonBrown in Sikeston, until his retirement.
He is survived by his mother; two sons and daughters-in-law; Gary and Dana Lathum of Cape Girardeau and Gregry and Cynthia Lathum of Scott City; six grandchildren, Carl Gary Lathum III, Lyla and Matthew Lathum of Cape Girardeau, Aimee`, Bailee' and Trenton Lathum of Scott City; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Jeanine Lathum of Dedham, Mass., Laddie and Mary Alice Lathum of Kentucky Lake, Ky.; Max and Lola Lathum of Bakersfield, Calif., and Paul and Linda Lathum of Herculaneum, one sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Roy Kersey of Nashville, Tenn.
He leaves behind many friends and loved ones and he will be missed very much.
No public services will be conducted. Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
