SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Lewis of Sikeston Route 2 observed their 51st wedding anniversary Sunday and that day were dinner guests of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Lewis.

Nov. 4, 1968

SIKESTON - No major damage was reported in Sikeston or Southeast Missouri as a result of an earthquake that struck at 12 a.m. Sunday. Telephone service was out temporarily in the city, according to William Newberry, telephone repairman.

NEW MADRID - New Madrid County is seeking more than $41, 266.25 plus interest for tax monies it claims were wrongly paid to Scott County by the Missouri Department of Revenue. In the suit, New Madrid County claims that the one-cent sales tax, which was initiated in the county Jan. 1, 1981, was collected by the State of Missouri through the Department of Revenue from J.C. Penney and Payless Shoe Store, was wrongly paid to Scott County. The stores are located in the Kingsway Mall in the city of Sikeston but in New Madrid County.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston High School Art Club were the winners of the Scariest category of the Halloween Window Painting Contest sponsored by the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sikeston Elks Lodge. For winning, the club was awarded $150.
