Two Kelly runners headed to state cross country meet

ST. LOUIS (SMNS) -- Kelly was able to qualify one boy and one girl runner to the state cross country meet, and they both did so with top-10 finishes Saturday afternoon.

Tara Johnson finished fifth in the girls race with a time of 21:41, while Cody Kern was eighth in the boys race.

Johnson, a senior, will be making her third-straight trip to the state meet. As a sophomore she finished 68th and as a junior last year she finished 17th.

Kern, a junior, is also making his third-straight trip to the state championships. Like Johnson, Kern finished 17th last year after finishing 67th his freshman season.

The state meet will be held Saturday in Jefferson City.
