ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Mary L. Abbott Slayton, formerly of Sikeston, Mo. died Nov. 4, 2008 at her daughter's home in Rockford.

Born in Caruthersville, Mo., daughter of the late James Milo and Pairlee Robinson Abbott, she was a member of Smith Avenue Church of God and had retired from Wal-Mart after 18 years of service.

Her husband, Glen Slayton, preceded her in death in 1975.

Also preceding her in death was one son, SPC. 4 Ronald Dennis Slayton, killed in Vietnam.

She is survived by one son, Jerry Glen Slayton of Hot Springs, Ark.; one daughter, Wanda Jean Stuckey of Rockford; one sister, Delia L. Arrington of Caruthersville; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. The Rev. Ira Sandefer, pastor of Smith Avenue Church of God, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
