MOREHOUSE -- Lois Hughes, 78, died at 8:33 a.m. Nov. 1, 2008, at her home.
Born Nov. 6, 1929, in Marktree, Ark., to the late Edgar and Lydia Sorters Powell, she was a homemaker.
She was married to Thomas Hughes in the year 1952 in Piggott, Ark., and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1989.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Susan Hughes of Jackson; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Wilma Powell of Morley; one sister and brother-in-law, Imogene and J.C. Burton of Michigan City, Ind.; one grandson, Bradley and wife Rebekah Hughes of Jackson; and two great-grandchildren, Breanna Hughes and Lorelei Hughes, both of Jackson. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews: Tony Powell of Sikeston, Brent Powell of Benton, Kim Davis of Blytheville, Ark., Wilma Whorton of Russellville, Ark., Barbara Lemmons of the state of Tennessee, Sherri Burton of the state of Arizona and Donna Burton of Michigan City.
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rebekah Hughes.
A memorial service was held Thursday in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Brown, pastor of Calvary United Pentecostal Church of Jackson, officiating.
A private disposition will follow at a later date.
