SIKESTON - The St. Francis Xavier Circle of the Daughters of Isabella met Wednesday for the installation of new officers. They include: Wilma Rodgers, regent; Mildred Graviett, vice regent; Judy Hart, past regent; Laura Sherman, treasurer; and Sue Gibson, financial secretary.

BENTON - Bob Kielhofner, the Scott County clerk, and an assistant transferred precinct totals from tally sheets to the big voter chart Tuesday night at the Scott County Courthouse in Benton.

BLOOMFIELD - Long after Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis' hopes of an underdog victory in the 1988 general election had been squelched, another underdog was celebrating a dramatic victory of his own in the race for Stoddard County sheriff. In a race that literally went down to the wire, Don Mayberry defeated Democrat Steve Fish of Dexter in the closest race in the county. Mayberry won the election by a mere 143 votes.

SIKESTON - Gary Hancock, salesman with Main Street Chrysler Center Inc., achieved the gold level in sales for the first time in the Chrysler Corporation Certified Sales Professionals Program.

SIKESTON - The Department of Public Safety reported that two beagle hounds were stolen from James Turk sometime between 6 p.m. and midnight Wednesday from a secured locked dog house. The unknown suspect cut the fence and stole the animals.
