EAST PRAIRIE -- Joseph Harold "Joe" Ivie, 73, died at 11:50 p.m. Nov. 7, 2008, at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born June 2, 1935, in Henderson, Ky., to the late Furman Harrison and Carrie Mae Ferrell Ivie, he lived most of his life in Mississippi County where he was a retired meat cutter for McDonald's Food Mart in East Prairie. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War, he was of the Baptist belief.
On Nov. 17, 1973, he married Ellen Herren who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: five sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Joann Ivie of Matthews, Ronnie and Tammy Ivie of Lilbourn, Joe and Samantha Ivie Jr. of East Prairie, Ben Ivie of Arnold and Zach Ivie of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Kenneth Bost of Sikeston, Diane and Tony Polley of Denver and Audrey Jo and Dan Kellgren of Kansas City; a stepson, Jack Huett; two sisters, Mary Piper and Agnes Futch of East Prairie; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were one brother, Furman Harrison Ivie Jr.; and three sisters, Myrtle Ivie, Ollie Ivie and Francill Spainhoward.
Services were today at the Full Gospel Church in East Prairie with Mike Johnson and David Dowdy officiating.
Burial followed in the Dogwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Jimmy Ivie, Zach Ivie, Jack Huett, Tom Herren, Roy DeJournett and David Sprinkles.
Honorary pallbearer was Nathaniel Ivie.
Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie was in charge of arrangements.
