CAPE GIRARDEAU -- James Robert "Bob" Blades, 78, died Nov. 8, 2008, at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 16, 1930, in Flint, Mich., to the late Ruben Markus and Emma Elvira Eaker Blades, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Malden, the Masonic Lodge in New Madrid, the Cape Shrine Club, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Cape Girardeau, a lifetime member of the Republican Inner Circle, the American Legion and VFW. A farmer and photographer, he was also a real estate broker and construction contractor, owning and operating many government buildings. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War.
On Oct. 31, 1952, he married Juanita Smith, who died Dec. 29, 1986. On April 16, 1994, in Memphis, Tenn., he married Patricia Ann Werner, who survives of the home in Cape Girardeau.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nancy Blades of San Antonio; one daughter, Trella Blades of Cape Girardeau; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Chris Miller of Pittsfield, Ill.; one brother, Alvin Blades of Oran; and two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; and a special friend, Leroy Nunn of New Madrid.
Services were held today at the Bradshaw Chapel in Malden, with the Rev. Greg Dowler officiating.
Burial with full military rites followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
