Nov. 11, 1948

SIKESTON - The Southeast Missouri Telephone Co. has been sold to Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., according to reports from Cape Girardeau. Southwestern Bell, which operates in a number of states throughout the Midwest, has purchased the controlling interest in the company.

Nov. 11, 1968

SIKESTON - The Thanks Badge, one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting, was presented to leaders Mrs. Joe Ellis of Charleston and Mrs. Victor Hill of Dexter last night. They were among six who have joined the ranks of those in the council receiving the award in the past 21 years.

SIKESTON - Superintendent of Sikeston Public Schools Lynn Twitty was presented with the Phi Delta Kappa annual award for outstanding service to education at a meeting of Missouri chapters of the fraternity in Kansas City.

Nov. 11, 1988

SIKESTON - Millions have served in the United States armed forces. Thousands have lost their lives in defense of their country. Today, American Legion Post 114 conducted a memorial service commemorating Veterans Day. Services were also held in other area communities. "I'm proud of Veterans Day," said American Legion Post 114 Commander Herb St. Mary.

Nov. 11, 1998

SIKESTON - Jennifer Schlosser's first grade class at Southeast Elementary collected 13 and a half pounds of soda tabs which was the most in the school. The school collected 65 pounds of tabs to be delivered to the St. Louis Ronald McDonald House. Becky Hutchison, manager of the Malone Street McDonald's, accept the tabs from the class.

BENTON - Derek M. Emerine, son of Bill and Linda Emerine of Benton, has received the C. Dale Hover Memorial Scholarship in Agronomy at Mississippi State University, where he is a sophomore.
