HAYWOOD CITY -- The Rev. Roosevelt Johnson, 81, died at 4:40 p.m. Nov. 10, 2008, at his home.
Born Nov. 30, 1927, in Helena, Ark., to the late Willie and Sally Benford Johnson, since the early 1950s he had lived in Missouri. He was employed as a farmer and served as pastor of several churches within the Mississippi County area. He served for over 30 years as pastor of Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wyatt before his retirement.
On Nov. 15, 1955, he married Helen Gene Brown, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: four sons and daughters-in-law, James and Vanessa Johnson of Grant City, Jreece and Cora Johnson of Haywood City, Melvin and Bridgette Johnson of Bell City and Paul and Nicole Johnson of Morley; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Rose Mary Owens and Pamela and Lester Gillespie of Haywood City, Sylvia and Frank Ellis of Cape Girardeau, the Revs. Bridgette and Melvin Williams of East Prairie, Debbie Johnson of St. Louis, Katherine Johnson of Norfolk, Va., and Andrea Johnson of Honolulu, Hawaii; one sister, Mary Ross of Sikeston; and 39 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, J.B. Johnson.
Visitation is from 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Greers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Sikeston. with the Rev. Bridgette Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sunset of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
