CHARLESTON -- Robert C. "Bob" Walker, 83, died at 2:20 p.m. Nov. 9, 2008, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born April 28, 1925, in Hoxie, Ark., to the late Robert Toney and Ailsie Ann Coleman Walker, following his graduation from Poplar Bluff High School in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and was the recipient of four Bronze Stars. In 1945, he became an apprentice watchmaker at the Carl B. Lane Jewelry Store in Malden and later became manager. He was an instructor at Lane's School of Watchmaking until 1951 when he moved to Carmi, Ill., and was employed at Dale's Jewelry Store. In 1953 he moved to Charleston and worked for Saliba's Jewelry Store. In 1980, he opened and operated Walker's Jewelry Store in Charleston until his retirement in 2002. He had served as state director, secretary and president of the Mo. Jewelers and Watchmakers Association and was a member of the Jewelers of America and the American Watchmaker Institute. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charleston and VFW Post 4294.

Survivors include: two daughters, Carrol J. Fisher of Harrington, Del., and Susan Cox of Charleston; two grandsons, Robert David Cox of Jacksonville, Ark., and David Fisher of St. Michaels, Md.; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Roberts, and one son-in-law, Gene Fisher.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Charleston. The Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor, and the Rev. Gerald Collier of Ironton will officiate.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be: Ray Presson, Roy Presson, Tom Graham, Tim Layton, Rick Smoot, and Lanie Black.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
