SIKESTON - Major Oscar Hudson, Army instructor for the first battalion of the 140th infantry regiment of the Missouri National Guard, arrived in Sikeston today to begin his regular duties.

SIKESTON - Bishop Eugene Frank of St. Louis will speak at the annual rally of United Methodist Men of the Sikeston-Poplar Bluff District Wednesday.

SIKESTON - The United Fund campaign, which is scheduled to close Dec. 15, has collected $23,745. This is slightly more than 55 percent of the $42,000 goal for eight agencies, Sam Harbin, co-chairman, reported.

SIKESTON - Sue Marble, president of the Daughters of Sunset, met with the honorees at the annual Daughters of Sunset's Recognition Reception Friday night. Among the honorees were Darryl Howard, Gerald Howard and Eliza Suggs. About 80 people attended.

SIKESTON - Cargill Inc. honored their Youth Farmer Safety Essay Contest winners at the 1998 Farmers Banquet Thursday night. Winners of the award were: Jessica Burnett, Ryne Wood and Tim Schmitt. The company had three age categories of competition.

SIKESTON - Penny Coffer was Missouri's Power Points winner last week, collecting $1,000 added to the local prize of $50. Susan Tidwell of the Standard Democrat presented Coffer with the check.

SIKESTON - The Gabriels Ministry Team will be in concert at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Gospel Church, as part of a fourth year anniversary celebration. The person who brings the most visitors to the morning service will receive a free dinner and dinner for all their guests.
